William C. Lute, 91, Retired Principal of Lorain City Schools

Photo of William C. Lute William C. Lute, 91, of Lorain died Friday, January 23, 2015 at his home. He was born November 25, 1923, in Lorain and remained a lifelong resident.

William, a man of honor and integrity, truly served others. He served his country in WW II in the Army Artillary during the Battle of the Bulge. He touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and fellow
administrators during his 33 year career in Education.

William was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1942A. He graduated from Bowling Green University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1949 he received his B.S. degree in Mathematics followed by his M.S. degree in 1954. William, a lifelong learner, continued his post graduate studies at the University of Colorado Boulder.

In 1950, William began teaching Mathematics at Hawthorne Junior High School. Beginning in 1955, he went on to become Principal of the following Lorain Elementary Schools: Boone, Masson, Garfield, and Homewood, retiring in 1983.

William was a lifelong member of the following professional organizations: National Education Association, Ohio Education Association, Lorain County Retired Teachers Association, and also Senior Fellowship.

William, who was fondly remembered as a dapper dresser, exuded professionalism and charisma. He had a strong belief in discipline and respect.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Betty Lute (Greenwitt) and a sister Eleanor Sevitts of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Marian Lute (nee Chema).

Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until funeral services at 5:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., Funeral services will be held with Rev. Bill Seith, officiating.
