Barbara A. Kyle, 78, Was an accomplished baker

Photo of Barbara A. Kyle Barbara A. Kyle (nee Kish), age 78, of Lorain, passed away on Monday January 19, 2015 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness.

She was born in Lorain on January 11, 1937 and remained a life-long resident of Lorain County.

Barbara was a 1955-A graduate of Lorain High School. Following her graduation, she attended the Oberlin Business School. She continued to maintain friendships with her former classmates at Lorain High as a member of the Golden Girls, a group that met for lunch and fellowship on a monthly basis.

Barbara was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain.

Mrs. Kyle was formerly employed as a claims analyst for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in Lorain and Elyria; she had also worked previously as a secretary at Elyria High School.

Barbara enjoyed a host of hobbies including cooking, ceramics, embroidery, rose gardening, and fishing. She was also an accomplished baker who prepared one hundred dozen cookies annually during the holiday season.

She enjoyed travel including multiple trips to Las Vegas as well as oceanic cruises to both Hawaii and Alaska. Barbara also enjoyed summer trips to the Lake Erie Islands and winter vacations in Fort Myers, Florida.

She is survived by her son Walter J. “Skip” Kyle, III (Joanne) residing in Carlisle Township, and by daughters Kelly Ploszaj (Jan) of South Amherst and Jennifer Kyle-Hampton (Bradley) of Lorain. She also leaves grandchildren, George, Nikki, Abbigail, and Jacob, and two great grandchildren, along with her brother Robert Kish (Susan) of Avon Lake and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Kyle was preceded in death by her first husband Richard Novak in 1966, by her second husband Walter J. Kyle, Jr. in 2008, by her parents Thomas and Mary (nee Oswalt) Kish, by sisters Marilyn Kish-Kyle and Doris Kish, and by her brother Calvin Kish.

Friends may call on Friday January 23rd from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 6:30 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Craig M. Hovanec, pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter will officiate. A memorial service will take place in the spring in Calvary Cemetery.
