Margaret Young, 89, Accomplished Cook

Margaret Young (nee Ockajik), age 89, of Lorain, passed away at her residence on Tuesday January 31st, 2012.

She was born in Lorain on May 16, 1922 and remained a life-long resident of the city.

Mrs. Young was formerly employed as a sales associate for Scott’s Five and Dime Store in Lorain.

She was an active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain where she was also a member of the Circle Three Group and had formerly sung in the church choir.

In her free time she enjoyed a variety of interests including crocheting, baking, collecting antiques, and attending garage sales. She was also an accomplished cook who specialized in all forms of ethnic cuisine. In addition, she was an avid reader who had a special interest in biographies, historical works, and books pertaining to home décor. In her earlier days she also enjoyed listening to Big Band music with her friends and peers at Crystal Beach. Her favorite pastime, though, was caring for the needs of her family and babysitting for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son William D. Young, Jr. of Lorain, and by daughters Janice Young and Joyce S. (Timothy) Tillack both also of Lorain. She also leaves three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband William D. Young, Sr., in 2007, by her parents John and Zuzanna (nee Bendik) Ockajik, by brothers John, Joe, George, and Steven, by sisters Mary Lou Chadwick and Lillian Howell, and by her dear aunt Anna Zatroch.

Visitation will be Friday February 3rd from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4501 Clinton Avenue in Lorain. The Reverend Laurie Miller, Pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests memorial contributions to either Christ Lutheran Church or to the New Life Hospice.
