Agnes A. Smith-Bacacio, 92, Accomplished Cook & Baker
Agnes A. Smith-Bacacio, age 92, of Lorain, passed away on Wednesday January 11th 2012. She was born in Wickhaven, Pennsylvania on February 24, 1919 and had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood.Agnes was a past parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Lorain, and was currently attending the Church of St. Peter where she was a member of the Senior’s Group.
She was an accomplished cook and baker who enjoyed preparing meals for the priests and women religious in residence at the Church of St. Peter for many years. She also enjoyed all forms of crafts.
She is survived by her nieces Barbara (Larry) Meschke of Avon and Sr. Rosemary Janezic, S.N.D. in residence at the Church of St. Peter, by her stepdaughters Joan Childress of Amherst and Marlene Fester of Mansfield along with a number of step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Cecelia Virant residing in Byesville, Ohio.
Agnes was preceded in death by her first husband Edward Smith, by her second husband Anthony Bacacio, by her parents John and Barbara (nee Varga) Gergel, by her sister Mary Janezic, and by her brother Steve Gergel.
Visitation will be Monday January 16th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
