Dora Trypniak, 82, Cook

Dora Trypniak (nee Soroka), 82, of Lorain, died Friday, February 2, 2007, in Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a brief illness.

She was born March 24, 1924 in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine; she immigrated to Lorain from Germany in1954.

Mrs. Trypniak retired as a cook in 1981 from the May Company cafeteria. She worked there for 14 years. She also worked for Saint Joseph Hospital as an elevator operator and a housekeeper.

She was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Lorain and sang in the choir. Mrs. Trypniak had served as an officer in the church's sisterhood. She was also a member of the Soyuz Ukrainok, Lorain. She enjoyed gardening and canning her own produce, cooking and baking Ukrainian specialties. She also made Ukrainian ceramics.

Among the survivors are a son, Ihor ''Trip'' Trypniak of Lorain; and daughter, Olga Trypniak of Bay Village. She was preceded in death by her husband Mykola "Nick" Trypniak in November of 2005; parents, Kalenyk and Anastasia (nee Yurchenko) Soroka and a sister Natalia Soroka.

Friends may call Monday, February 5, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Parastas service at 7:30 p.m., at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E. 31st St., South Lorain. Services will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2007 with funeral at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 2340 E. 34th St. The Very Rev. Dennis Kristof, pastor, and the Very Rev. John Nakonachny, pastor of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
