Stanley Ashby Porter, 90, Millwright

He was born January 16, 1915 in Elyria, Ohio and has been a Brownhelm Twp. resident since 1940 moving from Elyria.

Mr. Porter graduated from Elyria High School in 1933. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII in the North Atlantic.

He was a millwright for US Steel, Lorain and retired in 1972 after 35 years.

He was a member of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Ely Masonic Lodge Post # 424. He was a farmer, a beekeeper, and enjoyed hunting and collecting antiques.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane Porter (nee Buell), 2 daughters, Jane Phillips of Birmingham, AL and Susan Kishman of Vermilion, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Fredrick James and Edith Ida (nee Schanbacher) Porter, and a brother Donald Porter.

Friends may call Sunday, March 13, 2005 from 2-5 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Ely Lodge #424 will conduct Masonic Services at 5 pm.

Rev. Elizebeth Terrill will conduct private graveside services at Brownhelm Cemetery.
