Robert Dean Wentink, 76, Miller Orchards "Farmer Bob"

Robert Dean Wentink, 76 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away March 10, 2005 at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland following a sudden illness.

He was born November 15, 1928 in Copley, Ohio. He made his home in Andover and Youngstown before moving to Elyria where he lived for the last thirty-seven years.

Robert worked at Miller Orchards where he was known as “Farmer Bob”, caring for the children that came to visit since 1990. He was also employed as a Project foreman at Ohio Edison for forty-two years, retiring in 1990. He was an active member of the Church of the Open Door in Elyria where he was a long time choir member and bus driver in their bus ministry; he participated on two mission trips to Africa and Brazil. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Grace Alice Wentink (nee: Settle); his daughters Janet Karnofel of Katy, TX, Joyce Stizza of Youngstown, Jill Cleary of New London; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchidren; his brother Don Wentink of Tacoma, WA; his sisters Shirley of Kingsville, Ohio, and Ruth Bank of Andover, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Eva Wentink (nee Hoffmyer)

Friends may call Sunday, March 13, 2005 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Open Door, Ralph Neighbor Center, 43275 Telegraph Road, Elyria. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11 am from the Church of the Open Door, Ralph Neighbor Center. The Rev. Robert Schroyer of the Church of the Open Door and Rev. John Bouquet of Bethal Baptist, Ashland, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria with the Amherst Veterans Honor Guard performing honors.

The family suggest memorials contributions be made to the Church of the Open Door, c/o of the Childrens Home in Brazil in memory of Robert Wentink, 43275 Telegraph Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
