Salvator L. Petro, 81, Avid Golfer

Salvator L. Petro, age 81, of Lorain, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born on September 12, 1923 in Lorain and has been a lifetime resident.

He was a 1942A Class graduate of Lorain High School and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain.

He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 247th Combat Engineers Unit. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation, European Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

He worked at the US Steel Company in Lorain for over 41 years as a roll turner and foreman in the roll shop, retiring in 1983. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Senior Fellowship golf league. He also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Clara (nee DeSilvester); daughters, Kathleen Petro of Lorain and Kristine Arnold of Manassas, Virginia; sister, Connie Magura of Lorain; aunts, Emma Fox and Helen Caruso, both of Lorain; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Christina (nee DeLuca) Petro.

Friends may call Monday, March 7, 2005 from 2-7 pm at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio.

Closing prayers will be said at the funeral home at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30pm at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the IAV Post#1 of Lorain.
