Emma H. Zapolski, 96, Oberlin Business College Graduate

Emma H. Zapolski, (nee Nagy), age 96, of Lorain, died Thursday February 24, 2005 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following an extended illness.

She was born May 9, 1908 in Huron, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain since 1929.

Mrs. Zapolski was a graduate of Huron High School and went on to attend the Oberlin Business College. She was employed as a plastic molder at General Industries Corporation of Elyria; she retired from that post in 1974 following thirty years of service. She had previously been employed in the pipe shop of the American Shipbuilding Company of Lorain.

A parishioner of Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church of Lorain, she was an avid bingo player who also enjoyed playing cards with the Golden Agers Group at the Lorain Moose Lodge.

Survivors include her son: Kenneth C. Zapolski of Lorain and a daughter: Pauline M. Shaffer also of Lorain, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a sister: Helen Elmer. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Marcella White, by a grandson: Michael Logar, by sisters: Margaret Stefanik, Julia Shippe, and Betty Kindred, as well as brothers: Louis and Charles Nagy.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday March 1st in Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church – Lorain with the Reverend Daniel O. Divis, pastor of the church officiating. Private family burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
