Miller Underwood, 75, Loved Spending Time with his Grandchildren

Miller Underwood, 75 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Monday, February 14, 2005, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born June 30, 1929 in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania. He was raised in Dembo Heights, Pennsylvania and has been a resident of Lorain for the last sixteen years.

He was employed by the Lorain U.S. Steel Mill for forty years, retiring in 1987 from the Bop Shop. He was a member of the Apostle’s Doctrine Church in Lorain. Miller loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and was a Browns football fan and Indians baseball fan.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Margaret C. Underwood (nee: Weimer); his daughter Gladys J. Underwood of St. Petersburg, Florida; his sons Miller Richard Underwood of Oberlin, David B. Underwood of Lorain and Michael A. Underwood of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren; his brother Louis Underwood of Mesquite, Texas; his sister Betty Whitcomb of Groton, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elliott and Agnes Underwood (nee: McCarty); by his brothers Robert Elliott, Ernest, Russell, and Edward Underwood; and by his sisters Margaret Simms, Bertha Baniak, and Helen Pavlick.

Friends may call Wednesday, February 16, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Roy McGlugritch, pastor of Apostle’s Doctrine Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
