George Barto, 88, Enjoyed photography

George Barto, age 88, of Lorain, died Monday February 14, 2005 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born January 21, 1917 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Mr. Barto was employed as a crane operator in the # 4 Blooming Mills at U.S. Steel Corporation's Lorain-Cuyahoga Works for more than thirty-nine years. He retired from that position in 1979.

He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township as well as a member of both Local # 1104 of the United Steelworkers Union and the American Slovak Club.

George enjoyed photography and traveling with his family.

He is survived by daughters: Ken Flynn of Amherst and DeAnna Ward of Wellington, nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren, by his brothers: John, Joseph, and Robert "Danny" all residing in Lorain, as well as sisters: Ann Schnur of Elyria, and Margaret Skaiepa of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Frances (nee Wessel) in 1990, by a daughter: Marsha in 1950, by a son: George Wessel in 1990, by his parents: George and Anna (nec Zatroch), by a brother: Andrew, and by a sister: Mildred Barto.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Friends may also call Thursday in Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church - 1500 Lincoln Boulevard - Sheffield Township from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. The Reverend Edgar Anthony, will officiate- Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park – Amherst Township.

The family suggests memorials in his name to Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church - 1500 Lincoln Boulevard - Lorain, Ohio 44055.
