Frank J. Lucas, 72, Lucas Plumbing & Heating Mechanical Contractors Founder
Frank J. Lucas, age 72, of Sandusky, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 5, 2005.Mr. Lucas was born on November 23, 1932 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania and moved to northern Ohio following his graduation from Uniontown High School at the age of 17.
He served with the United States Navy in the post Korean Era; upon returning from military service he entered into the apprenticeship program of Plumbers and Steamfitter’s Local #830 of Lorain. In 1958, he founded Lucas Plumbing and Heating Mechanical Contractors and incorporated the business in 1965. At the time of his death, he was serving as its president and Chief Executive Officer. Possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Lucas became involved in a multitude of other business ventures throughout Florida and Ohio.
He previously served on the Board of the Lorain Port Authority in the mid 1990s as well as the Board of Directors of the Lorain Family YMCA>
In his free time, Frank enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed flying as a licensed pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot’s Association.
He was a member of Lorain Elks Lodge #1301, Knights of Columbus Council #637, Mullen-Murray VFW Post #451 of Lorain, American Legion of both Lorain and Sandusky, the Italian-American Veterans Organization of Sandusky, the Sandusky Eagles Aerie, and the American Slovak Club of Lorain.
He was also a member of the Catawba Island Yacht Club, the Huron Yacht Club and the Elyria Country Club.
Mr. Lucas is survived by sons: Daniel F. of Vermilion, Mark A. of Lorain, Joseph C. of North Ridgeville, daughters: Sheryl A. Seiler of Avon Lake and Doreen R. Lucas of Amherst, along with nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Julia Lucas, and a brother Joseph A. Lucas.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 8, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 9, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 10, 2005 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 200 Saint Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Reverend Lawrence Martello, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by officers and members of Mullen-Murray Post #451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Mr. Lucas’ memory.
