Doris Catherine Syrowski, 72, Mother of Ten

Doris was born September 15, 1932 in Portageville, Missouri. She was raised and has been a lifetime resident of the Amherst area. She was a graduate of South Amherst High School in the class of 1950.

She was a loving housewife and the mother of ten. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. She served for many years for the Lorain County Domestic Relation Courts as a cook, retiring in 1987. She was an avid bowler.

Survivors include her sons Anthony Syrowski of Amherst, Mark Syrowski of Woodbridge, Virginia, Lawrence Syrowski of Amherst and Michael Syrowski of Lorain; her daughters Kathleen Lilly of Lorain, Angela Heberling of California, Brenda Campbell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Margaret Barsan of Sheffield, Jean Bryson of San Antionio, Texas and Sheila Mongomery of Amherst; twenty-six grandchildren; and one great grandson, one brother, Edward Young of Key West, Florida, one sister, Carrie Bruce of Buena Vista, AK.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Arthur “Art” Steve Syrowski on October 25, 1997; her brother Henry Lee Young in 1954, William Young in 1983; her sister Peggy Rogers in 2002 and by her parents Clarence and Flossie Young (nee Ennis).

Friends may call Sunday, and Monday, February 7, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Closing prayers will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the funeral home with mass to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawerance Martello, pastor of ST. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 N. Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio.
