Richard D. Sly, 69, Owned Richard Sly Architecture, Inc.

Mr. Sly was born on April 18, 1935 in Norwalk, OH. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1953 and the Ohio State School Of Architecture in 1959. He was a member of the St, Matthew Evagelical Lutheran Church in Vermilion.

He owned and operated his own business, Richard Sly Architecture, Inc. He worked on many area projects including Lorain Community Hospital, Lorain Community College and designed homes and remodelings in Cleveland, Rocky River, Westlake, Lorain, Vermilion, Huron, Sandusky, Catawba Island, Put In Bay and Lakeside.

He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan and was a loyal season football ticket holder since his graduation from Ohio State. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Fox Creek Country Club. He loved to play cards, read and his animals.

He was involved in many area service clubs including Lorain Kiwanis, Lorain Jaycees, and Vermilion Rotary. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge 1301, Vermilion Amvets, Vermilion American Legion, F & AM Blackriver Lodge # 786, a founding member of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame, OSU Alumni, Chi Phi Fraternity and the Vermilion Historical Society. He also had served on the Harbortown Design and Review Board, the former Lorain Chamber of Commerce and the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Sly is survived by his wife Nancy (nee Romoser) Sly, daughter, Randi Sly Strittmather of Vermilion, son, Richard Eric Sly of Vermilion, and 3 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Parents Carl H and Edith (nee Waters) Sly, and brother Robert Sly.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 11:00 am in St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 15617 Mason Road, Vermilion, OH, 44089 with Community Health Partners Chaplain Jim Peter officiating.
