William J. McPhillips, 69, Stationary Engineer

Photo of William J. McPhillips William J. McPhillips, 69, of Wakeman, died Friday, January 28, 2005, in Allen Memorial Hospital, Oberlin after a lengthy illness.

He was born September 5, 1935 in Lorain, where he lived for 38 years before moving his family to Wakeman.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He worked as a stationary engineer for Ford Motor Company, Lorain, for 31 years retiring in 1991. He was involved with the UAW as a committee man. He had been a boy scout leader, enjoyed traveling, shuffleboard, reading, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Jane (nee Zahratka); 2 sons, William M. McPhillips of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Timothy J. McPhillips of Wakeman; 3 daughters, Colleen M. Burroughs of Thurman, Iowa, Celeste M. Morris of Huron, and Julianne M Umstott of Brookpark; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Mary Agnes Teleha of Lorain, Florence Marie Tomasic of Dearborn, MI and Jeanne Hite of New London.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruby (nee Frank ) McPhillips; and sisters Mary Catherine O'Rourke, Josephine Larkin and Margaret Gallagher

Friends may call Sunday, January 30, 2005, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Christian Wake Service
will be held at 3:30 p.m. The Vermilion Veterans Council will have an evening military service at 7 pm.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home Monday, January 31, 2005, at 11 30 a.m. followed by a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Jim Holmer, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain
