Thomas Burich, 54, Union Representative
Thomas Burich, age 54, of Lorain, died Saturday January 22, 2005 at his residence while under the care of the VNA Hospice, following an illness of three years.Tom was born in Steubenville, Ohio on October 23, 1950 and had been a resident of Lorain for his entire life.
He was a 1968 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School and went on to further his education by completing course studies at the American Institute of Paralegal Studies in Middleburgh Heights; he had previously served as an administrative assistant to former Lorain County Commissioner Mary Jo Vasi.
Mr. Burich was employed as a machinist and quality control specialist at U.S. Steel Corporation's Lorain/Cuyahoga Works where he also served as a union representative for all job classifications with United Steelworkers Local 1104. He was later employed as a quality control inspector for the Seaway Bolt and Specialty Company of Columbia Township. He also worked part-time as a sales associate for a variety of local auto dealerships.
He was an ardent fan of the New York Yankees and had compiled an extensive collection of sports-related memorabilia. Up until the time of his illness, he remained active in fast and slow pitch, adult baseball and softball leagues throughout Lorain County where he filled roster spots in the positions of catcher and outfielder He also participated in adult flag football competition.
Survivors include his companion of four years: Linda Gardlock of Lorain, and his mother: Stella (nee Orbovich) Burich also of Lorain. Tom was preceded in death by his father: Jaso Joseph Burich.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 9 pm. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Lorain where a Pomen service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Milorad Orlich, pastor of Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery - Lorain.
