Robert J. Roesky, 85, Plant Superintendent
Robert J. Roesky, age 85, of Avon Lake, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005 at his home following a sudden illness.Mr. Roesky was born June 20, 1919 in Cleveland and moved to Avon Lake in 1955 from Brooklyn, Ohio.
Bob was a graduate of West Tech High school, Cleveland and served as a Master Sergeant with the U. S. Army Air Corp. from 1941 to 1946 during World War II in China, India and Burma.
He was employed as a plant superintendent with Ohio Bell, retiring in 1981 after 36 years of employment. Bob was a member of Lake Shore Untied Methodist Church, Avon Lake; the American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake and the Ohio Bell Telephone Pioneers Social Organization. He served as C.Y.O. Basketball coach from 1959 to 2003 for St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake where the Bob Roesky Basketball Tournament is held in his name. He was inducted into the Lorain County Basketball Hall of Fame. Bob was also inducted into the Avon Lake Sports Hall of Fame in 1986 and served as treasurer for the organization. In addition to coaching basketball he also coached baseball and was an avid high school sports fan.
Mr. Roesky is survived by his wife of 60 years, June (nee Eccleston); a son, Robert J. Roesky, Jr. (Theresa) of Gahanna, Ohio and a daughter Linda E. Kawecki (David) of Waukesha, Wisconsin; and four grandchildren, Erin, Mathew, Christy and Kimberly. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Lynn Roesky in 1952, a brother Andrew Roesky, and his parents, Andrew and Lilly M. (nee Mitchell) Roesky.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Services will be held at the Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 33119 Electric Blvd. Avon Lake Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at 10 a.m. Dr. Charles Peal, pastor of Lake Shore United Methodist Church and Fr. Timothy J. O’Connor, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake will officiate. Burial will follow at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, Cleveland where military honors will be observed.
