Miguel A. Alvarado Sr., 78, Tow Motor Operator
Miguel A. Alvarado, Sr. 78 of Lorain died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.He was born May 18, 1928 in Ciales, Puerto Rico. He graduated high school there.
He also studied English Language. He lived in Jauna Diaz, Puerto Rico for ten years before moving to Lorain in April 1954.
Mr. Alvarado retired in 1974 as a Tow Motor Operator for Ford Motor Plant #1, Brookpark. He worked there for 23 Years. He taught English and was a mechanic in Ciales.
He played the Cuatro professionally in Puerto Rico, Northern Ohio and surrounding states. He performed for then Governor of Puerto Rico Luis Marian and won a letter righting contest sponsored by him. Mr. Alvarado appeared with Ramito, Odilio Gonzalez, Nieves Quintero, Maso Rivera in Puerto Rico and, Carmelo Santiago, Felo Guzman, Miguel Cruz, Yayo Rodriguez and Carlos Velazquez locally.
Mr. Alvarado served in the Army during the World War II serving with Company F 65th Infantry. He earned the World War II Victory Metal, American Theater Service Metal and two Over Seas Bars.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and the United Auto Workers Local Brookpark.
Among the survivors is wife of 55 years Dalila (nee Garcia) Alvarado; sons Miguel Alvarado of Lorain, Harold Alvarado of Tampa and Wilfredo Alvarado of Kissimmee, Florida; eight grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Luis and Eulalia (nee Rivera) Alvarado, sister Luisa Alvarado and a brother Luis Alvarado, Jr.
Friends may call Sunday, January 23, 2005, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 24, 2005, with closing prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 AM followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, South Lorain. Reverend, Father Edward J. Smith, Associate Pastor of Saint Jude Catholic Church, Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
