Herstle Godsey, 81, Stone Cutter
Herstle Godsey, 81 years of age and a resident of Lorain passed away Jan 15, 2005 at the St. Joseph Center of New Life Hospice in Lorain following a four and a half month baffle with cancer.Herstle was born June 26, 1923, in Delta Kentucky. He was raised and lived in Kentucky, leaving Wayne County in 1968 to come to South Amherst OH. In 1981, he moved to Lorain where he had remained until his passing.
While living in this area he worked as a stone cutter for ten years for the Cleveland Quarries in South Amherst. He was a member of Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church in South Amherst and had been attending the Praise and Worship Church in Elyria.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dasda J. (nee New); sons, Bobby O. Godsey of Nova, OH, Wendell L. Godsey and Ronald K. Godsey both of Lorain; daughters, Bernice West of Lorain and Helen M. Gregory of Nova, OH; 12 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren; brother, Cecil Godsey of Delta, KY; sisters, Flora Phillips and Lilly Rose both of Delta, KY.
He was preceded by one sister Clida Rose and by parents Cleveland F. and Sally J. Godsey (nee New).
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James Monday, pastor of the Praise and Worship Church in Elyria will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst OH.
