Robert L. Carney, 75, Inspector

Robert L. Carney, 75, of Lorain, died Thursday January 13, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a three-month illness.

He was born July 18, 1929 in Wheeling, West Virginia and had resided in Lorain since 1965.

Mr. Carney served with the US Navy from 1949-1953 and sailed aboard the USS Brownson.

He worked at Bettcher Industries in Birmingham as an inspector retiring in 1992.

Mr. Carney attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and was an active member and trustee of VFW Post #451 in Lorain where he served as junior and senior vice. He was also a member of AMVETS Post #47 in Lorain. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his daughters Barbara Molnar of Amherst, Cynthia Popovich of Lorain and Elizabeth O’Brien of Woodstock, Georgia; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and his sister Marguerite Yanda of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Lee Carney (nee Burd) in 1995, parents Harry Carney and Madeline Carney-Raab (nee Schwartzbach), brother Alfred Carney and sister Betty Sayre.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 14, 2005, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Braodway Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Charles Burd Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon where VFW Post #451 will conduct military honros.
