Louis S. Policz, 81, Assemblyman

Louis S. Policz, 81 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away January 13, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born December 23, 1923 in Mather, PA where he was raised. Amherst Township has been his home since 1963.

He worked as a coal miner for United Mine Workers Union in Mather, PA before joining the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He served in areas such as Belgin and Holland. Louis was employed at Ford Assembly Plant in Lorain as an assemblyman for twenty-four years, retiring in 1984. He had been an active member of the Methodist Church in Jefferson, PA; he was a member of the Amherst Eagles Aerie #1442. He enjoyed golfing in his younger years was a scratch golfer; he played in Amherst golf league and was Amherst City Champ four years in a row in the mid Seventies. He also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Norma Jean Policz (Virgin), his sons, Richard C. Policz of Amherst, William L. Policz of Sheffield Lake, and Gary J. Policz of Amherst; his daughter Karen Reiter of Amherst; eight grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; six brothers and five sisters all living in Pennsylvania.

He was preceded by his parents George and Julia (nee: Urban) Policz; his brother George Policz and his sister Helen Orrie.

Full Military Honor will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.

Friends may call Saturday, January 15, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday, January 16, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17th at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria or American Parkinson Association, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.
