Calvin L. Osman, 79, Decorated US Navy Veteran
Calvin L. Osman, 79, of Sheffield Lake, died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at his home after a lengthy illness.He was born February 23, 1925 in MacKeys Rocks, Pennsylvania and had resided in Sheffield Lake for the past 46 years moving from Massachusetts.
Mr. Osman served with the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Lea as a Water tender Third Class. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with two stars, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Osman worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant as an inspector for 40 � years retiring in 1987.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and the Mid Century Masonic Lodge in Avon Lake where he served as lodge master in 1989. Mr. Osman enjoyed gardening and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Clara Osman (nee Gaetano), daughter Mary McNeal of Cleveland, son George Osman of South Amherst, daughter Donna Alexander of Lorain and son Joe Osman of Tampa, Florida, 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Peg Usselman of Lorain, Betty Burckure of Largo, Florida and Janet Usselman of Richmond, Virginia and brothers George Osman of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Bob Osman of Darlington, Pennsylvania and Melvin Osman of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents George & Mary (nee Sallade) Osman; and his brother Al Osman.
The family will receive friends Monday 2-4; 7-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where the Mid Century Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial service Monday at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave.; Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Disabled American Veterans Post #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
