Augustine J. D�Orazio, 79, Merchant Marine during World War II

Augustine J. D’Orazio, 79, of Lorain, died Tuesday December 28, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.

He was born August 1, 1925 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mr. D'Orazio graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1943B and served with the Merchant Marine during World War II.

He managed the Manhattan Market on. 18th & Broadway in Lorain for 20 years and then worked as a shipper at US Steel in Lorain for 10 years. He retired in 1984 from Lakeland Enterprises in Lorain.

Mr. D'Orazio was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and the church Holy Name Society. He enjoyed playing bocce ball, Italian cooking, wine making and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary (nee Di Francesco) of Lorain, daughter Patricia D'Orazio of Lorain, sons; Anthony D'Orazio of Lorain and August D'Orazio, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; 6 grandchildren, a brother Joseph D'Orazio of Colorado Springs, Colorado and sisters Mary Jacoby and Alice Mead, both of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his son Vincent D'Orazio in 2000; parents: Vincent and Erlinda (nee Moretti) D'Orazio and a brother Louis D'Orazio in 1999.

The family will receive friends Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain where the St. Peter Holy Name Society will pray the rosary Thursday at 7 p.m. The mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter with the Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, in Lorain.
