Arnold L. Sprunk, 83, Enjoyed Golfing

Arnold L. Sprunk, 83 of Vermilion, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 in Community Health Partners West after a sudden illness.

He was born January 14, 1921 in Florence, OH and has been a Vermilion resident for the past 4 years moving from Birmingham.

He attended the Aviation Mechanics School, Cleveland. He entered the US Navy in July of 1943 serving during WWII as an Aviation machinist's mate. He served in the Asiatic Pacific area and was involved in the Philippine Liberation. He was discharged Dec. 19, 1945.

Mr. Sprunk retired from Centel (Lorain Telephone Co.) in 1981 after 33 years of service as a supervisor.

He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church, Gibson Masonic Lodge #301 in Wakeman, and the American Legion Post #397. He was the former chaplain for the Vermilion Veterans Council. He was a life member of VFW Post 7576, Amvets Post #22, Sandusky Musician's Association, and the Independent Telephone Pioneers Association. He was the former secretary and treasurer of the Florence Township Fire Dept. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Thelma (nee Yates) Sprunk, daughter, Karen Kaye of Beachwood; 3 grandchildren; sister, Thelma Watson of Florence, OH and brother, Donald Sprunk of Norwalk.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfred and Hazel (nee Crapo) Sprunk, daughter: Sandra Albright in 1998, 3 brothers: William, Raymond, and Alfred Jr.; and 1 sister, Quanita Sprunk.

Friends may call Monday, December 27, 2004 at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South St. Vermilion from 4-6 pm. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 4pm followed by the Gibson Masonic Lodge #301 service.

Friends may call on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 from 11:00 am until the time of a Memorial Service at the funeral home at 12:30. The Reverend J. Dennis Henkle, pastor of Birmingham United Methodist Church, will officiate.
