Ione J. "Neta" Springer, 89, Enjoyed the Outdoors
Ione J. Neta Springer (nee: Myers), 89 years of age and a resident of Amherst, passed away, Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness.She was born December 5, 1915 in Norwalk where she was raised and lived until 1942 when she moved to Brownhelm Township. Brownhelm Township was her home until her health began to fail in 2002 and she moved to Hearthstone Health in Amherst.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was an active member of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ. Ione served as financial secretary for twelve years and enjoyed working with the children and crafts. She was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts for several years in Brownhelm, was a leader for both Boy and Girl Scouts and later was a member of the Firelands PTA. She enjoyed art and had taken several classes in drawing and painting at Lorain County Community College in Elyria. She enjoyed the outdoors, flower gardening, yard work, and bird watching.
Survivors include her sons, Gerald Springer of Hudson, Colorado and Allen Springer of Amherst; her daughters Marjorie Fehlner of Avon Lake and Rose Hornbeck of Wellington; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Raymond Springer on October 23, 2001; by her granddaughter Debbie Darnell; by her parents George Henry and Florence Myers (nee: Comley), by her brothers George, William, Louis and Ray Myers; and by her sisters Caroline, Dorothy, Lillian, Margaret and Elsie.
Friends may call Monday, December 27, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ; 2144 North Ridge Road, Brownhelm. The Rev. Elizabeth Terrill, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
