Anthony H. ��Tony�� Rosso, 82, WWII US Navy Veteran
Anthony H. ‘’Tony’’ Rosso, age 82, of Sheffield Lake, died Sunday, December 12, 2004 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a brief illness.He was born May 10, 1922 in Lorain and had resided in Sheffield Lake for the past 50 years.
Mr. Rosso served in the US Navy during Would War II and was aboared the USS Missouri when the peace treaty ending the war was signed. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon with 5 stars, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Rosso worked at Fruehauf Trailer in Avon Lake for 23 years, then at American ShipBuilding Company in Lorain for 15 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake, a life member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 of Lorain, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8686 of Sheffield Lake.
Mr. Rosso was an avid sports fan who coached Sheffield Lake youth baseball and actively attended his grandchildren’s sports activities.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Elizabeth ‘’Betty’’ Rosso (nee Branham); sons: Robert of Sheffield Lake, Ronald of Sheffield Village, Richard of Sheffield Lake, and Russell of Lorain; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; brothers: Carl Russo of Lorain and Sam Russo of Sacramento, CA; and sister of Joan Zelnik of Sacramento, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Lena (nee Temerario) Rosso; grandson: Robert Rosso; sister Lillian Romanski; and a brother: Carl Rosso in infancy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 15, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Glunva-SHimo-Hromada Funeral chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., in Lorain where the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 will condict a memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 3700 Center Road, Avon. The Rev. Stephen Shields, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow with military honors by the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 of Lorain.
