Ruth A. Calta, 82, Very active in her community

Photo of Ruth A. Calta Ruth A. Calta, 82 (nee Greenwood) of Lorain died on Friday, December 10, 2004 at Community Health Partner's and Surgical Center in Lorain following a short illness.

Mrs. Calta was born on May 12, 1922 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident.

She was a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She taught for three years in the Lorain School system.

She was a dedicated and very active member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church formerly known as the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Calta was very active in her community. She had been involved with almost every women’s’ service organization in Lorain, and served as the President of most of them at one time, or another.

Some of her memberships include: Lakeland Women's Club, Sorosis, Order of the Eastern Star, and American Association of University Women. She was one of 40 founding members of Lorain Community Hospital. She was very well known for her 40 years of volunteer service to the hospital, and her daily presence in the Treasure Chest will be sorely missed. She was a founding member of the LCH Auxiliary, and served several terms as president. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Lorain Community Hospital, as well as its Home Health Care Professional Advisory Board.

Mrs. Calta also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lorain Palace Civic Center. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.

She is survived by a nephew David and Deborah Cox of La Grange, OH, nephew Robert Greenwood of Florida, niece Bonnie Ann Greenwood of Mercer Island, WA, 4 great nieces and 4 great-great nieces.

Mrs. Calta was preceded in death by her husband a former Lorain City School Superintendent Dr. Joseph F. Calta in 1986, her parents George C. and Jessie B. (nee Bruell) Greenwood, sister Jean Cox and brother George Robert Greenwood.

Private family graveside services in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery will be held.

A Public memorial service is scheduled for Friday, December 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Lorain Palace Civic Center in downtown Lorain. The Reverend Dale Warrick, pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and Reverend Jimmy Madsen, co-pastor at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate.

In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Community Health Partner's Foundation, Ruth Calta Endowment Fund, 3600 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
