Mary J. McElroy, 74, Playing piano was her passion
Mary J. McElroy, age 74 of Avon Lake formerly of Ashtabula, passed away, Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at her home following complications of cancer.Mrs. McElroy was born, May 21, 1930 in Ashtabula and had lived in Avon Lake the past 9 years. She had also lived in Springfield Delaware County, PA.; Baltimore MD and Royal Highlands, Leesburg, FL.
Mrs. McElroy had worked in banking, as a physician's assistant and an administrative assistant. While in Springfield, she worked as a technical coordinator for the Springfield School System, Delaware County.
She was a member of the Catholic Church throughout her life and most recently was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club in Springfield. Her life long passion was playing the piano. She enjoyed music, singing, reading hiking and family recreation.
Mrs. McElroy is survived by her husband, George K. McElroy, whom she married, November 27, 1950. Other survivors include 2 daughters: Deborah L. Rojeski (Thomas) of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Mary S. "Suzy" Niese of Sandusky and 2 sons: Michael D. "Mickey" McElroy of Numindia, PA and Stephen G. McElroy (Tracy) of Chesterfield, MO. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Andrea, Zachary, Laura, Alexandria, Marlo and Elle; a sister, Belly Teresk of Ashtabula and a step-sister Theresa Kreski.
She was preceded in death by her father: Anthony Skufca; mother: Elizabeth Meaney (nee Diemer); step-father Bernard Meaney and step-brother Bernard Meaney.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Friday, December 10 from 7:30-8:3Opm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 11, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake, a committal service will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor of the church will officiate.
