John S. Caruso, 85, WWII US Marine Veteran

John S. Caruso, 85 of Lorain died on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at his home following a long illness.

Mr. Caruso was born on November 2, 1919 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident.

He was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1938B. He was a veteran of the 1st Division of the US Marines serving during WW II.

He was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain. He retired in 1981 from US Steel Production planning department. He had 40 years service.

Mr. Caruso was an avid sports fan, especially Notre Dame Football and New York Yankee baseball. He enjoyed golf, traveling and his grandchildren.

He was also a member of the Italian American Veterans Post 1 in Lorain.

Mr. Caruso is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret (nee Szabo) Caruso, daughter Theresa Caruso of Lorain, John Caruso of Lorain, James Caruso of Maple Grove, Minnesota, 3 grandchildren and one sister Catherine Gonnella of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Caruso, parents Peter and Rose (nee Marozza) Caruso, sisters Theresa Caruso, Nancy Mazze, brothers George, Frank, Steve, Albert and Ernest Caruso.

Funeral services will begin with prayers at 9:30 am Saturday, December 4, 2004 in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Mary Church, corner of Reid Ave and 8th Street, Lorain with Rev. Daniel O. Divis officiating.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery Lorain with full military honors provided by the IAV Post of Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church, 309 7th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052 or the New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
