Carlos Carrion, 90, Active Member of Sacred Heart Chapel

Photo of Carlos Carrion Carlos Carrion, age 90, of Lorain, died Sunday November 28, 2004 in the emergency room of Community Health partners Hospital and Surgical Center – West following an extended illness.

Mr. Carrion was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on October 14, 1914 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1950.

He was employed as a laborer by the Ford Motor Company at its Brook Park complex. He left their employ in 1976 following twenty-six years of service. He was a former member of United Autoworkers’ Local 1250 there.

Carlos was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain where he was a member of the Holy Name Society as well as the Legion of Mary and an active participant of the funeral committee. His hobbies included playing cards and dominos and watching western movies. Additional interests included maintaining his massive vegetable garden where he especially enjoyed harvesting garlic, beans, peppers, tomatoes, and cabbage.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Paulina (nee Martinez), sons: Jose E. Carrion and Benigno “Benny” Carrion both of Lorain, Reinaldo “Ray” Carrion of Staunton, Illinois, daughters: Luz M. “Lucy” Carrion and Margie Mendez both of Lorain, Maria E. “Elsie” Shivey of Elyria, Teresa M. “Terri” Maccarone of Valejo, California, and Tomasita Oquendo of Puerto Rico, eight grandchildren, step-mother: Francisca Rotger, brothers: Cruz and Eufracio both residing in Puerto Rico, Jose of New Orleans, and sisters: Lucia Cerpa, Paulita Baez, Josefina Perez, Cecelia Mena, and Iris Rodriguez all living in Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Carmen D. Maldonado his parents: Juan and Isabel (nee Colon) Carrion, brothers: Alipio, Erasmo, Daniel, and Nicolas, and by sisters: Felicita Gonzales and Anita Claudio.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 1, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 2nd beginning at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend William A. Thaden, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will following in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
