Dorothy Mae Kurth, 79, Enjoyed cooking and gardening
Dorothy Mae Kurth (nee Walker), 79 years of age, and a resident of Amherst passed away November 21, 2004 at Cleveland Clinic following a five week illness.
She was born February 24, 1925 in Lorain, Ohio. She graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1943 and has been a resident of Amherst for nearly 70 years.
Dorothy worked as a secretary for thirty plus years; for ITS in Elyria for ten and then for Douglas Manufacturing for over twenty where she retired from in 1989. She was member of Saint Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst for over fifty years and was active with; circle six, Chi-Rho fellowship, Alter Guild, a church counsel member and secretary as well as very active in managing the kitchen responsibilities of the church. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and Amherst Band Booster, member of the Board of the Amherst Library, charter member of the Amherst Junior Women's Guild Demole' mothers club, Amherst Hospital volunteer. She loved flower gardening and cooking.
Survivors include husband; Norm Kurth to whom she was married fifty one years; sons Darrel of Berlin Heights, and Duane of Amherst; three grandchildren; brothers, George Walker Jr., of Bay Village and Robert Walker of Vermilion, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Walker and Kathryn (nee Nahm) ; and by sister Sandra Muska.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at Saint Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst at 4:00 pm. The Rev. Mark Pemberton, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place privately at a later date at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Peter United Church of Christ Memorial Fund 582 Church Street in Amherst.
