Gregory Balogh Jr., 55, Accomplished athlete
Gregory Balogh, Jr., age 55, of Lorain, died Sunday November 14, 2004 at the Specialty Hospital of Lorain following an illness of eighteen months.He was born September 3, 1949 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of the city.
Greg attended Washington Avenue Elementary School, Hawthorne Junior High School, and Admiral King High School where he was a member of the graduating class of 1967.
He was employed for the past seven years as a utility man for Aramark Cafeteria Services at Lorain Admiral King High School. He had formerly been employed as a coil maker for Romanoff Electric Motor (REM) Corporation of Sheffield Village.
Mr. Balogh was an accomplished athlete who played the outfield for numerous fast pitch softball teams including Sunrise Cafe throughout Lorain County. He previously enjoyed weight lifting at the former Lorain Recreation Center, Additional interests included reading with a special focus on history.
He is survived by a brother: Frank of Lorain, sisters: Judy Balogh, Charlene Zajac, and Linda Balogh all of Lorain, Bonnie White of Huron, along with Pam Roth and Darlene Turrizziani, both residing in Wakeman, and a variety of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father: Gregory Balogh, Sr. in 1996, by his mother: Margaret (nee Ach) Balogh in 1981, by a nephew Jerry White in 1986, and a niece: Tara Pitts in 2004.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. until time of memorial services at 7:30 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Lorain. The Reverend Roy L. McGlugritch, pastor of Apostles Doctrine Church in Lorain will officiate. Private family burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery - Lorain.
