Agnes M. Snell, 79, Librarian
Agnes M. Snell, (nee Gencur), age 79, of Lorain, died Tuesday November 2, 2004 in the critical care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.Mrs. Snell was born on August 9, 1925 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.
Agnes attended Holy Trinity Parish School and was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1943-B She was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She had also been an active member of her class reunion committee since commencement.
Following her graduation, she worked as a clerk in the Tabulating Department of the former National Tube Company or Lorain. She moved on to serve as a sales associate at the F.W. Woolworth Store in central Lorain and was most recently employed as a librarian for the Lorain Public Library System.
Mrs. Snell was an active parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a volunteer in numerous parish activities. A longtime member of Saint Ann's Lodge Branch # 114, she was formerly active in the Saint John Parent-Teacher Union.
Her interests included reading, solving crossword puzzles, collecting stamps, and enjoying easy listening music.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years: David B. Snell, a son: David P Snell residing in Wakeman, daughters; Diane Vitovitz of Elyria, Jane Rich of South Amherst, Pam Wilhelm and Gwyneth Sheperd both residing in Lorain, seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, along with brothers: Albert Gencur of Joliet, Illinois, and Joseph Gencur of Vermilion.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Barbara Ann Snell in 1978, and by her parents: Paul and Sophia (nee Smik) Gencur.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel -- 3224 Broadway - Lorain where a rosary service will be conducted by the officers and members of Saint Ann’s Lodge at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church 2143 Homewood Drive - Lorain The Reverend Thomas Smith, pastor of the parish will officiate, Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
