Cornelius J. "C.J." Murray, 80, Lake Terminal Railroad Co. Clerk
Cornelius J. C.J Murray, age 80, of Lorain, died Monday, October 25, 2004 at Saint John and West Shore Hospital in Westlake following an extended illness.Mr. Murray was born June 10, 1924 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He attended Lorain Saint Mary High School and began his working career as a Shipfitter-learner for the American Shipbuilding Company. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Fireman First Class. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Model.
Following the fulfillment of his military obligation, he returned to Lorain and secured employment with the Lake Terminal Railroad Company where he served as a clerk until the time of his retirement in 1984.
C.J. was a parishioner of Saint John Roman Catholic Church where he formerly served as an usher. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and an ardent supporter of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program. He enjoyed attending the games of both teams.
Mr. Murray is survived by his wife of fifty-four years: Helen (nee Kalo), by son, Ernie of Lorain, granddaughter, Wendy Murray, sister: Julia Donhue of Avon and brother: Edward Murray of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Patrick and Veronica (nee Flood) Murray and by brothers: Pete and John.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 27, 2004 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of unreal mass at 10 a.m. in Saint John Roman Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain with the Reverend Thomas R. Smith, pastor of the parish, the Reverend Cornelius J. Murray, pastor of Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church in North Olmsted, and the Reverend Paul Donohue concelebrating.
Officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans, Lorain, will conduct military honors immediately following the funeral mass. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
