Richard J. Paysor, 86, WWII U.S. Army Veteran

Richard J. Paysor, age 86, of Lorain, died Saturday October 23, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a brief illness.

He was born December 19, 1917 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mr. Paysor graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1936B. He served with the US Army during world War TI as a sergeant in Battery A 205 FA battalion 4lst Division in the Philippines. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan.

Mr. Paysor worked at the B&O Railroad in Lorain as a chief clerk for 37 years retiring in 1977. He also served as ward four council person for the city of Lorain.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, a life member and past commander of AMVETS Post #47 of Lorain, a National Charter Life Member of AMVETS and a life member of VEW Post #451 of Lorain.

Mr. Paysor was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 as a member of the Fatty’s Sports softball team and had served on the hall of fame executive board.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching sports and was a charter member of the Cleveland Browns booster club that began in Lorain in the 1950's.

He is survived by his companion Mary Lou Wolff of Lorain, sons: Richard A. Paysor of Mooresville, North Carolina and Ronald M. Paysor of Apollo Beach, Florida; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary E. Paysor (nee Susi) in 1991, parents: Joseph & Mary (nee Fronckowski) Paysor, a brother Joseph Paysor and sister Geraldine Dominic.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame will conduct a memorial service Tuesday at 5 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where AMVETS Post #47 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
