Anna B. Pallas, 89, Teacher

Anne B. Pallas age 89 of Grafton passed away Saturday morning, October 23, 2004, in Center Ridge Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born Wednesday, January 20, 1915 in Laporte, Ohio and had been a resident of Grafton and Eaton Twp. her entire life.

Mrs. Pallas graduated in 1931 from Eaton High School. She then joined the Teacher Cadet Program and graduated from Kent State University in 1959. Anna was awarded the Distinction of Honor from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation in 1969-1970 and then again in 1978-1979 school year.

She retired in 1980, after 23 years of teaching. Mrs. Pallas taught 2nd grade in the Midview School District for four years and at Gates School in the Elyria School District for nineteen years. Mrs. Pallas was a volunteer (Pink Lady) at the Emergency Room in Elyria Memorial Hospital for many years and also served on the Board at the School Employees of Lorain County Credit Union. She worked during WWII at General Industries and Bendix Westinghouse in Elyria rebuilding emergency air brakes.

Mrs. Pallas's hobbies included reading, gardening, the outdoors, and identifying the birds and animals that frequented her property on the banks of the Black River on Parsons Rd. where she resided for the last forty years. She was a dedicated horticulturist with extensive knowledge about wild and hybrid shrubs, trees, and flowers. She also participated in the YMCA Travel and Entertainment Program for several years, preferring live stage plays and visiting historical sites in the Northeastern United States.

Mrs. Pallas is survived by her grandson Cole Pallas of Grafton, Ohio Grandson Stephen Pallas of Grafton, Ohio Grand-Daughter Robin Pallas of Maui, Hawaii and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Stephen and Anna Balogh, her husband Edward Pallas, son Gary Pallas, and daughter Linda Olic, Brothers Zoli, Elmer, Steve, & Ted, Sisters Amelia Williams & Grace Bachlor.

There will be no visitation, as a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 7:30pm with Rev James Cake off. in Belden United Methodist Church, located at St. Rt 303 & ST RT. 83 in Belden.

Family suggest memorials be made to the Belden United Methodist Church Senior Fellowship Fund.

Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton is in charge of arrangements.
