Luis R. Fernandez, 63, Owned Luis Food Market

Luis R. Fernandez 63 of Lorain died Friday, October 22, 2004 in Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born December 12, 1940 in Lares, Puerto Rico. He moved to Chicago in 1956. He lived there for 15 years before moving to Toabaja, Puerto Rico. In 1982, he came to Lorain.

Mr. Fernandez opened Luis Food Market in Lorain in 1982. He owned and operated it for five years. He also worked as a supervisor for Greyhound Bus and was a butcher in Chicago.

He was a member of Temple Emmanuel Assembly of God, Lorain and was a member of the churches Sociedad de Caballeros. Mr. Fernandez enjoyed entertaining, baseball, gardening and working on cars. He also enjoyed listening and singing religious music and reading his bible.

Among the survivors is his wife of 28 years Rita (nee Rivera Fernandez) of Lorain; sons Miguel Angel and Edwin Fernandez both of Lorain, Alexander Fernandez of Meridian, Mississippi, Luis J. Fernandez of Orlando, Florida and Juan Soto of Lorain; daughters Zinthia Fernando of Denver, Colorado and Betty Fischer and Mildred Fernando of Chicago, Illinois, his aunt (who raised him) Sarah Barreto of Lorain and eleven Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents Ramon and Carla (nee Barreto) Fernandez and brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Monday, October 25, 2004, from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Temple Emmanuel Assembly of God, 4230 Clinton Avenue, Lorain, where funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM. The Rev Daniel Reyes, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio.
