Mary F. Ferlic, 85, Volunteered for many organizations

Mary F. Ferlic (nee Mlach), 85, of Lorain, died Monday October 18, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a short illness.

She was born July 16, 1925 in Lorain to Frank & Mary (nee Rebec) Mlach and had resided in Lorain all of her life.

She attended Ss. Cyril & Methodius School and Lorain High School where she graduated with the class of 1943B and then attended Lorain Business College.

Along with her husband George they operated Ferlic Printing out of their home in Lorain for 42 years. Prior to that Mrs. Ferlic worked at Thew Shovel in Lorain in the Planning Department.

Mrs. Ferlic was a lifelong member of Ss. Cyril. & Methodius Catholic Church in Lorain; and a leader in several cultural organizations. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the church and president of the Ladies Guild for several years. She was treasurer of KSKJ Immaculate Conception Lodge #85 for 43 years. She was an auditor for the Slovenian Women's Union; member of St. Aloysius and SDZ Lodges, National Council of Catholic Women, Democratic Women's Club and Slovenian Home Auxiliary.

Her spirit of volunteerism included working on campaigns for charitable organizations as well as active participation in her children's schools. She enjoyed many hobbies and activities such as playing pinochle, computer solitaire and word find puzzles. She enjoyed collecting items featuring pigs and decorated her kitchen in a pig motif. She was known for baking excellent pastries, desserts and potica or Slovenian nut roll in her younger days. Mary enjoyed singing and listening to Slovenian polkas and folksongs.

She spoke and wrote the Slovenian language fluently.

Mrs. Ferlic will be remembered by many for her friendship and dedication to her family.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years: George H. Ferlic, son George D. Ferlic and his wife Laureen (nee Sekular) of Amherst, daughters Joyce Ferlic Arredondo and her husband Joel of Lorain & Mary Ann Teitelbaum and her husband Martin of Lorain, grandchildren Emmanuel Teitelbaum and his wife Lauren (nee Aronson) of Chicago, Marin Waynar and her husband Chris of Columbus, Meredith Bingham and her husband James of Amherst, Daniel Teitelbaum of North Ridgeville, J. Andrew Arredondo of Lorain & Maria ‘’Mia’’ Arredondo of Lorain.

The family will receive friends Thursday 1-9 p.m. at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Parish Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9.30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the funeral mass at 10 a.m. at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 1705 E. 31st. St., in Lorain. The Rev. Paul Krajnik, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
