Floyd C. Shaffer, 75, Sunday School Teacher

Floyd C. Shaffer, 75 years of age, and a resident of Fairborn, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 18, 2004 in Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio.

Born in Marion, Ohio he moved to Amherst at the age of 4 where he attended school.

He served in the Merchant Marines for two years and graduated from Norwalk Bible College and Baptist Bible College (now know as Cedarville University) both with degrees in teaching. He and his wife, Faustine, of 31 years, moved to Fairborn, Ohio in 1996 spending their winters in Florida. It was there he became ill with cancer.

Mr. Shaffer was a member of Church of the Open Door, Elyria, for twenty two years where he taught Sunday School for six years. He retired after 32 years from Thew Shovel of Lorain, and then worked for Ridge Tool in Elyria, and then from Bettcher Industries, Inc. after eight years. His travels included Europe and eight different countries as well as Israel. He has been interested in the Hebrew language his whole life and has been translating the New Testament in Hebrew for the past two years. Many young men have gone into the ministry because of his influence.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Faustine; a son John (Donna) Shaffer of Elyria; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine (James) Wilmoth of Wellington, Ohio and Mrs. Rebecca (Daniel) Hogan of Conway, South Carolina; and three stepchildren, Mrs. Carol (William) Hill of Painesville, Ohio, Mrs. Connie (Wally) Cirafesi of Munster, IN, Mrs. Jacqueline (Douglas) Tallman of Huber Heights, Ohio. He also left behind eighteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by several brothers and a sister; and his parents, Ira and Lucrecia Shaffer.

Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gary Moosey, of Florida, will officiate. Burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery.
