Robert A. Johnson, Jr., 62, US Army Veteran

Robert A. Johnson, Jr., age 62, of Brownhelm Township, died Wednesday October 13, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following an illness of five months.

Mr. Johnson was born on February 9, 1942 in Sheffield Lake, Ohio and had been a resident of Brownhelm Township for the past twenty-seven years, coming from Lorain.

As a youth, he attended the Berlin Heights Public Schools. He went on to serve in the United States Army as an aircraft mechanic and maintenance specialist during the Korean Conflict. Bob was a member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Lorain), as well as a member of Amherst V.F.W. Post # 1662, and Elmer Johnson Post # 118 of the American Legion-Amherst.

He was employed at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works, serving as a brick layer and team leader in the masonry department for thirty years and then as a torch repairman for the last four years of his employment. He retired in December of 1999.

Mr. Johnson's hobbies included fishing, woodworking, attending local flea markets, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wire of forty-one years: Arlene (nee Oberholtzer), a son: Robert A. Johnson, III of Brownhelm Township, daughters: Sherry Smith and Susan Holowecky both of South Amherst, grandchildren: Charles Smith, Joshua Smith, Justin Smith, Courtney Smith, Rachel Holowecky, and Brandi Holowecky, brothers: Arthur C. Johnson of Lorain, and Franklin D. Johnson of Brownhelm Township, and sisters: Judy O. Black of Elyria and Roberta E. Treadway of Brownhelm Township.

He was preceded in death by his father; Robert A. Johnson, Sr. in February of 1999.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 & 7 to 9 p.m. in the Church on the North Coast – 4125 Leavitt Road - Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the church with the Reverend Louis Kayatin, pastor of the Church on the North Coast and the Reverend Mark Lantz, pastor of Broadway Assembly Church officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park- Amherst Township where military honors will be conducted by officers and members of the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Children' S Bible College at the Church on the North Coast - 4125 Leavitt Road - Lorain, Ohio 44053.
