Felix C. "Phil" Michaiski, 82, WWII U.S. Navy Veteran
Felix C. "Phil" Michaiski, age 82, of Lorain, died Friday October 1, 2004 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness.He was born March 10, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain since 1948.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre, Mr. Michaiski had been employed by Fenner Floors of Lorain from 1948 until the time of his retirement in 1990.
Felix was an active parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher and was also instrumental in organizing fund-raising efforts for the parish.
Phil also assisted in coordinating events associated with the annual Lorain Community Follies hosted by the Lorain Palace Civic Center and was well known for stepping into the guise of Santa Claus for the Christmas in July celebration conducted by the Golden Acres Nursing Home. He was a former member of the Lorain Civil Service Commission and was a long-time member of the Lorain Towne Club.
He enjoyed travel and playing cards with friends.
Survivors included nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Theresa A (nec Zajkowski) in 2003; by his parents: Kazmir and Aniela Michalski (a.k.a. Michalska); and by a brother: Reverend Thaddeus C. Michaiski in 2000.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church - 1454 Lexington Avenue - Lorain.
The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the church will officiate. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
