Joseph C. Wuitowicz, 74, Served in the U.S. Sea Bees

Joseph C. Wuitowicz, 74 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2004 at his son's home following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 6, 1930, in Lorain. He was a lifetime resident of Amherst Township.

Joseph was a member of the Laborers Union Local # 758 working as a laborer for 40 years retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Sea Bees. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his sons: John Wuitowicz of Sandusky, Michael Wuitowicz of Lorain and Joseph C. Wuitowicz, Jr. Of Berlin Heights; his daughters, Joann Stefurak of Kipton and Janette Kay of Wakeman; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his sister, Joann Portman of Oberlin; his foster mother Vlasta Gnizak of Lorain.

He was preceded by his wife of 52 years: Anna Marie (nee Beese) Wuitowicz in 2002; his sons: Christopher Wuitowicz in 1993 and David Wuitowicz in 2002; his brother, Steven Wuitowicz and his parents, Joseph and Margaret (nee Berish) Wuitowicz; his foster father, Joseph Gnizak.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst where funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. with military honors by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Rev. James Schmitz, pastor of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery in Amherst, OH.
