William J. Boros, 85, US Army Veteran

William J. Boros, age 85, of Lorain, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital after a short illness.

He was born October 11, 1918 in Munson, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Lorain area since childhood.

Mr. Boros was a 1936 graduate of Sandusky High School. He served with the US Army during WWII as a Technician Fourth Grade in Service Troop 12th Calvary. He served in the Southern Philippines, New Guinea, and Bismarck Archipelago Luzon. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Boros worked as an electrician for 44 years at US Steel in Lorain retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, 23-year President of the Young men’s Hungarian Club of Lorain, a life member of VFW Post# 451 of Lorain and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Post #20 of Lorain.

Mr. Boros is survived by his wife of 56 years: Emelie Boros (nee Jovec) of Lorain; daughters: Connie Boros of Tampa, Florida, and Kathy Richards of Avon Lake; 2 grandchildren; and sister: Margaret Koch of Avon Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Alex and Elizabeth (nee Bonfordi) Boros; and brothers: Al and Ignatius Boros.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7-3 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW #451 will conduct military honors.
