Donald W. Dunham, 78, WWII Navy Veteran
Donald W. Dunham, age 78, of Avon Lake, formerly of Fairview Park, passed away, Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, Ohio, following complications of Alzheimer's.Mr. Dunham was horn, July 7, 1925 in Cleveland, grew up in Fairview Park where he graduated from high school in 1943, and has live in Avon Lake most of his life.
Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Dunham served in the US Navy, Pacific Theatre, during WWII.
Mr. Dunham had first worked on the family dairy farm, He then worked for Dairymen's, Dairy as a supervisor. He then was owner of Bill and Don's Sheffield Inn' Sheffield Lake, for 30 years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 211, the Mid Century Masonic Lodge #725, both in Avon Lake. He was a Shriner and a member of the Lorain Co. Scottish Rite. He enjoyed the Cleveland Indians, dining out and western movies.
Donald is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty Jane (nee Wagner). Other survivors include 3 sons: Edward Dunham (Debbie) of North Ridgeville, Bill Dunham (Mary Ann) of Charlotte, NC and Jeff (Debbie) Dunham of West Bloomfield, MI; 4 daughters: Melissa Dunham of Avon Lake, Tracy Jo Fox (Larry) of Avon Lake, Mary Ellen Dunham (partner Debbie) of Lakewood and Melanie Dunham of Sarasota, FLA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Lucas and Sadi Fox, Blythe and Brett Dunham and Beth and Robbie Dunham.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Don and Mildred (nee Wilker) Dunham and a sister: Virginia Dunham.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake, Thursday, May 6 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. All services will be at the funeral home Friday, May 7 at 11 a.m. Fr. Tommy Rodriguez, pastor at the Ohio Veterans Home will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
