Paul A. Nitz-Knight, 81, WWII Veteran, enjoyed his cats
Paul A. Nitz-Knight, age 81, of Amherst, passed away Monday, May 3, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a one-month illness.He was born on December 14, 1922 in Lorain and has been a resident of the Lorain area his entire life.
Mr. Nitz-Knight worked for the U.S. Post Office as a Mail Carrier in Lorain. He retired in 1965 after 15 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was a PFC headquartered with the 110th Engineer Combat Group serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. Mr. Nitz-Knight received five Bronze Stars, the American Theatre Service Medal, Declorain Good Conduct Medal, European-African, and Middle Eastern Service Medals.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Loved to spend time with his animals, especially his cats. He was a former member of United Polish Club.
Surviving him are his sons Dr. Paul R. Knight of Zanesville, Ohio and Ken Knight of Lorain, daughters Bonnie O’Neal and Patti Ritter of Lorain, six grandchildren, sisters Mary Louise Landis of Amherst and Josephine Hagen of Michigan, and brother Leonard Nitz of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul (1971) and Elizabeth (nee Cendrosky) Nitz (1984), brother Jack Nitz in 1982, and sister Doris Metevier in 2003.
Friends may visit Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway Ave., Lorain, Ohio. The Funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Greg Ball will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 451. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
