Katherine Poszywak, 88, Baker, enjoyed cooking and gardening
Katherine "Kate" Poszywak (nee Sarabacha) 88 of Avon died Saturday, May 1, 2004 in Saint John West Shore Hospital, Westlake following a lengthy illness.She was born December 16, 1915 in Lorain. She was a Lorain resident for 78 years before moving to Avon in 1994.
She was a 1933 graduate of Lorain High School.
Mrs. Poszywak was employed as a baker at Model Bakery in South Lorain. She also was a housekeeper and cook in Cleveland.
She was very active member of Saint Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church and she was also a member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Lorain. Mrs. Poszywak was a member of Saint Mary's Sisterhood and Ladies Guild she was also co-chair of the church's bingo. She enjoyed cooking, canning and flower gardening.
Among the survivors are her sons Father Vladimir "Walter" Poszywak of Lorain and Alan Poszywak of Lakewood; One Granddaughter and One Great Granddaughter and a brother Peter Gill of Eustis, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Walter J. in 1983; a daughter Kathleen Solomon; parents Peter and Dora (nee Kulchycki) Sarabacha sisters Anna Sarabacha and Annie Burich.
Friends may call Monday 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Friends may also call Tuesday 10:00 AM until time of service at 10:30 AM in Saint Peter and Paul Orthodox Church East 32nd Street and Gary Avenue, South Lorain. Archpriest Basil Stoyka, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
