John N. Grisel, 84, Enjoyed farming, machines, and jigsaw puzzles

He was born March 24, 1920 in Vermilion, Ohio and has been a life long resident.
Mr. Grisel worked as a mason tender for the T. J. Hume Company for 38 years. He also worked at Wohlever Funeral Home in Bellevue for 24 years, and Dombrowski-Volak-Wohlever Funeral Home, Lorain for 16 years.
John was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church. He enjoyed farming, yard work, machines, flowers, jigsaw puzzles and helping the Vermilion Friends of Harbourtown with painting and other work projects. He was known to many as "Grandpa" and the "Mayer of Axtel.
Mr. Grisel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma (nec Schieferstein); 2 sons: Charles Grisel of Vermilion and Richard Grisel of CA; daughter: Holly Sue Christian of Elyria; 2 grandchildren; sisters: Amelia "Mitzie" Schafer of Vermilion, OH, and Betty Dickel of Vermilion; and many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers: Conrad, Ted, Albert, William, Adam and Nick; 3 sisters: Matilda Kidd, Emma Markt, and Mabel Dickerhoff and his parents: Conrad and Martha (nee Sennhenn) Grisel.
Family will receive friends Friday, April 30, 2004 from 4-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home; 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ohio and Grand Street, Vermilion on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. Reverend Doug Yost, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
