Edith P. Kovalck, 86, Homemaker, made over 100 quilts
Edith P. Kovalck (nee: Hoover), 86 years of age, and a resident of Amherst passed away April 24, 2004 at the Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.She was born December 15, 1917 in Ten Mile, West Virginia where she was raised and lived until moving to the Lorain City area in 1972. She later moved to the Wellington area where she lived until coming to Amherst in 2002 where she has resided since.
She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. She dedicated her life to the craft of homemaking and enjoyed gardening and canning as wall as quilting, making over 100 quilts in her life time.
Survivors include her sons, Ray Koon of Lorain and Victor Kovalck of Cuyahoga Falls; daughters, Carolyn Simmons of Lorain and Marjorie Kobylski of Port Clinton, OH and Patricia Miller of Penfield, Pennsylvania, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; sister Hazel Cola of Crestline, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband of thrity-one years, Steve S. Kovaick on October 12, 1972, three brothers and three sisters as well as her parents Perry and Ella Hoover (nee Clingerman).
Friends may call Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave. Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday beginning with prayers at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. from the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst.
The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church 200 Saint Joseph Dr., Amherst Ohio 44001.
