Robert Shannon, 79, Enjoyed golf, world travel, and world history

Robert “Bob” Shannon, age 79, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland of an acute illness coupled with other multiple chronic illnesses.

Bob was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1924.

Mr. Shannon graduated from Carnegie Tech in 1944, then joined the Merchant Marine for 2 years. He was married to Emily for 56 years prior to her death in 2002. Bob’s career was spent as a chemical engineer at US Steel/USX from 1946 through 1982. He worked at several Pittsburgh area plants followed by the Lorain Works Plant. After retiring from USX, he worked as a consultant in furnace controls from 1983 to the present with North American Manufacturing and other miscellaneous companies around the world.

Finally, Bob served as one of the four authors of Industrial Furnaces- Sixth Edition*. The book was released December of 2003.

Mr. Shannon was an active member of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club and Kiwanis International and the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church. He was also an active member of the Avon Lake Bridge Club. His special interests included golf, world travel, and world history.

Robert A. Shannon is survived by two sons: David (Eileen) of Victoria, Texas, and Daniel (Young) of Houston, Texas; daughter: Colleen Godman (Duane) of North Ridgeville, Texas; grandfather of Jeffery (Theresa) of Houston; Nathan (Sabina) of Philadelphia, PA; and Jessica also of Houston; and the great-grandfather of Tyler Victoria of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Emily J.; and his parents: Edward I. and Elizabeth R. Shannon (nee Sutter).

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 26 at 4 p.m. at the Avon Lake United Presbyterian Church located at 32340 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Ohio. Rev. Thomas C. Robinson, pastor, will officiate. Donations in the name of the deceased may be made to the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice. Cremation by Busch Crematory. Arrangements handled by the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, Avon Lake.
