Ilona Berencsi, 82, Known for her beautiful voice and great cooking
Ilona Berencsi, (nee Nagy), age 82, of Lorain, died Saturday April 17, 2004 at the home of her daughter while under the care of New Life Hospice.Mrs. Berencsi was born in Hungary on April 8, 1922 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1964.
She was employed for a number of years in the housekeeping department of the former Saint Joseph Hospital.
Ilona was an active member of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain where she was a member of the Busy Martha's Guild and the Hungarian Sick Benefit Society; she was also a member of Hungarian Citizens Club of Lorain She was a gifted vocalist and was a well known for her beautiful singing voice as well as her abilities and talents as a cook.
Mrs. Berencsi is survived by her daughter: Ilona Dusky of Lorain, sons: Geza and Andreas Berencsi both residing in Hungary, grandchildren: Michael Dusky, Amy Dusky, and Kristina Berencsi as well as three additional grandchildren residing in Europe, and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Julius in 1981, by a son Stephen, by her parents: Anthony and Elizabeth (nee Fordor) Nagy, by a brother: Yanosh Nagy, and by sisters: Esther and Elizabeth.
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain where a memorial prayer service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Additional visitation will be Tuesday in the Hungarian Reformed Church - 1691 East 31st Street - Lorain from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Atilla Veres Kovacs, pastor of Hungarian Reformed Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Lorain
